Can You Dye Organza Lace?

time2011/01/06

Organza lace is lace made out of a sheer fabric. You can find organza lace made from many different fibers. Some fibers can be dyed quite easily, but others are very hard or impossible to dye.
Features
Organza lace is a fine, gauzy fabric. It is similar to tulle but flows more freely. It is often used in wedding dresses and wedding attire, as well as in formal wear, costumes and sometimes heirloom clothing.
Considerations
Before the advent of synthetics, organza lace was made out of silk. Later, organza lace came to be made from a wide range of materials. You can color silk and other natural fibers with ordinary fabric dyes. Polyester is very difficult to dye, requiring special dyes. If you only want to dye a small amount of polyester organza lace, you can use fabric crayons, pens or transfers if they are formulated for synthetic fibers.
Warning
Never dye anything marked "dry clean only." If you can't wash it, you can't dye it. If you don't know what fiber your organza lace is made out of, try dyeing a small sample first.
